ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The Anointing of the sick sacrament is performed to heal the soul and body of a person who is at the point of death. The important parts of this order are repentance, prayer, and Holy Communion.
The Pastor lays his hand upon the sick person and prays that through the sign of the cross he or she will receive strength from God in order to endure his pains and sickness. At the same time he comforts and admonishes him that he trust in God’s infinite mercy, by repenting and participating in Holy Communion, to secure his salvation in order to enter his eternal rest with a peaceful mind and spirit.
